David’s Tea Review: Detox, Cleanse & Glow Edition

You may remember my post a couple of days ago regarding the Balance VoxBox that I was sent for free through Influenster? Well I mentioned that I received a few other things in that box… tea was one of them! David’s Tea to be specific!

If you know me you know I’m tea crazy. I have to be… I’m English. My David’s Tea collection is getting a little out of hand if I’m honest, so you can imagine my excitement when I discovered that we’re were THREE new teas for me to try in this box. Lemon Cayenne Cleanse, Turmeric Glow, and Organic Detox. All of which sounded perfect seeing as I was definitely coming down with a cold when I opened this box up.

Turmeric Glow

At this point I only had a bit of a sore throat, so I thought I’d better kick it in the butt with some turmeric. Apparently “turmeric contains bioactive compounds with powerful medicinal properties” (HealthLine), so I figured this tea was probably my best chance at ridding myself of the imposing chest infection. Disclaimer: it didn’t work. I was/am sick as a dog.

Upon taking the teabag out of it’s packaging, I smelt the “curry”/spicy smell right away, and the colour of it was bright orange/yellow. I added my boiling water to it as you do with tea and the water turned BRIGHT ORANGE. This really shouldn’t have been a surprise given the colour of the contents of the teabag but nevertheless I didn’t quite expect it to the THAT bright. Taste-wise, this was the worst out of the three. I like my fruity, green, and lemongrass-like teas. Bitter is probably the best way to describe the taste of this tea. Bitter and wrong. I just kept telling myself that this would help my cold. If I’d have known I’d feel as crap as I do right now I wouldn’t have forced the whole tea down myself.

1/10 – would not buy/drink again

Organic Detox

I tried this one the next day, when I knew there was no stopping the wrath this infection as going to take on my lungs. If I’m honest, I can’t quite pin point the taste. I thought I would like it more than I did due to there being ginger and lemongrass in it. I think the somewhat random blend of flavours in it really threw me off. Wasn’t horrible, I wouldn’t buy it myself but if a cup of it was offered to me I would drink it

5/10

Lemon Cayenne Cleanse

A cleanse. Just what I needed. At this point my throat felt like I was swallowing razor blades so anything that wasn’t that turmeric crap would soothe it. Taking it out of the bag it smelled straight up like some kind of lemon cleaning product. Weird, but I wasn’t offended.

The taste was good, and actually really helped soothe my throat. I did occasionally get another whiff of cleaning supply, but mostly it just tastes like lemon. Have you ever had a Lemsip? It tasted like that, which is fitting because Lemsip is for cold and flus!

I would consider buying this one again, it was definitely my favourite of the 3 I was given to try. Though I think if I was given the choice between this and a Lemsip right now, I would take the latter due to the Lemsip containing Paracetamol.

7/10

And that’s my take on the teas! What are your favourite flavours of tea? I’d love to hear your suggestions so I can go out and get some for myself!’
