Gymshark Dreamy Leggings Review

I have been lusting after these leggings for soooo loonngggg – mainly because of the colour not going to lie. The amount of times I put the teal Dreamy set into my basket and then decided against it is unreal. So when Gymshark’s blackout sale launched and I realized that after a couple of days they still had the leggings in stock, I just had to do it. I am a little gutted that they were sold out of the matching sports bra though but I guess it just wasn’t meant to be (my bank account is probably thanking me tbh.

Usually I find Gymshark takes forever to arrive after ordering, especially during their big sales, but this took no time at all. I placed the order on Thursday 28th November, and received them 5 days later on the Tuesday – insane!

I will preface this review with this: the leggings didn’t fit. They were too big around my waist. I ordered a small which is my usual size in Gymshark, every other pair of leggings I’ve ordered from there have been a small. I’m 5’6″ and 150lbs – I should not be needing to size down to an XS, I am not an XS. If these were in the correct size they genuinely would have been perfect. I am however a little disappointed in Gymshark as a company given that they refused to let me exchange them for the price that I paid. They do not have an exchange policy??? But they so very kindly suggested that I return them and re-buy at the non-sale price!!! For such a huge company this is disappointing and it has left a bad taste in my mouth.

Anyways, I will still review the leggings as best I can – I just can’t tell you how well they actually perform in the gym seeing as I have to return them and cannot do that if I wear them for a workout… I’ll do my best.

As always with my leggings reviews, I will touch on a few main points that everyone checks off when they’re testing out how good a gymwear legging is:

  • Are they squat proof?
  • Do they have good tummy control?
  • How’s my muffin top?
  • Do they give me camel toe?
  • How well do they stay up?
  • Are they true to size?
  • Are the sweat proof?
  • Does the overall fit “make sense”?
  • Do they make me feel cute?

Squat proof-ness

The first thing I do when I put a new pair of leggings is find myself a mirror and drop a squat in front of it. If a legging isn’t at least a 8/10 on the squat proof scale then I generally have no interest in wearing them. I struggle to see the point – if you’re wearing leggings to the gym there’s a STRONG chance you’re going to be doing a lot of moving and bending, so why wear a legging that shows the entire world your underwear? Nah babe I’ll take a pass.

So, how do I rate the Dreamy leggings on the squat proof scale? Considering they’re a light colour, they are a 10/10 on the squat proof scale. I’m genuinely shocked. The material on them is quite thick, and even when I pulled it apart with my hands I couldn’t see through them. Amazing. Because of that I think that even if I did have the size down I would still be fine to wear whatever colour underwear I wish and not risk anyone seeing!

Tummy control?

I find with leggings there’s a very happy middle ground when it comes to tummy control. You want them to fall somewhere between hella thick band with so much compression that you feel like you cant breathe, and absolutely no band at all sans a horrible teeny tiny one at the top that just gives you a weird little indent at your belly button.

If I had sized down in these leggings, the tummy control would have been fab. The waistband is nice and thick so there wouldn’t be any lumpy bumps around your lower tummy. The small on me didn’t offer too much compression – but if you like a little more breathing room and you don’t have a big waist to booty ratio, stick with your regular size!

Muffin top

By this I mean are they high waisted enough? I like a legging that sits nicely at my belly button – that way any chance of a muffin top is gone.

These bad boys sat in the perfect spot and I think even with the size down they would still come up high enough.

Camel toe or camel no?

I’m sure I’ve mentioned this before but why on EARTH do companies keep putting a seam right down the middle of where our vag is on leggings?? Let’s just show everyone the exact silhouette of our bodies yea??

There is a front seem on the Dreamy’s but the stitching isn’t too tight for the fabric so a true camel toe isn’t an issue. In the small I had a very minor cupping, if you will, which I think would have disappeared with less fabric in the smaller size.

Staying power

A good pair of leggings won’t need to be yanked up after every set or 30 seconds into a sprint.

I’m probably being dramatic and on anyone else they’d have felt the small fit them fine, but I truly just don’t like even having to think about what I’m wearing at the gym. I don’t want to have to hike them up after every sled push or burpee. The smalls were ok, but even walking around the house in them I felt some slippage happening. The XS would have been perfect, genuinely.

So I’d say yes, there is staying power, as long as the size is good…

True to size?

Like I said earlier, every legging I’ve ever purchased from Gymshark has been a small. I’m 5’6, 150lbs, waist 26, hips 40. They always fit me well.

As I’m SURE you can tell by now… these ones didn’t. NOW I don’t know if my size has personally changed, I don’t believe it has because I haven’t had to change what size I buy in anything else. The dreamy leggings didn’t fit me right. They were just too big on my waist – not by a ton, just enough that there was a little bit of bunching around my low back as well as a little in my crotch area.

In the future I’m going to make sure to size down, or at least buy S and XS just in case the sizing is odd… especially now that I know there’s no chance of an exchange……….

See the bunchiness around my crotch?

Swass or no swass?

Swass = sweaty ass. Now, without getting too personal, swass is real in my world regardless of whether you can see it on my leggings. Generally I don’t really care if you can see my swass, I’m almost proud of it!

Obviously I didn’t test the sweat mark hiding capabilities of the Dreamy’s because I’m returning them, but given the colour and material, I would say that no, they’re not sweat proof. I don’t own a single pair of non-black leggings are sweat-proof, that’s just how it be.

Cuteness scale

Obviously very cute, that’s what drew me to order them in the first place. The colour is fab, the design is fab. I looked great in them minus the bunching. Length wasn’t outrageous on my short little legs. Blue goes with lots of great colours to make a cute outfit. I would have worn the shit out of them IF THEY FIT ME.

So that’s that, my Gymshark Dreamy Leggings review. All in all I’d give them a 8/10 – marks docked for the fit and Gymshark’s lack of ability to accomplish a return.

If you have any legging suggestions I’d love to hear them! Leave me a comment below, I’m always looking for good recs (not that I need any more workout leggings but it’s FINE).

I’ve also reviewed Gymshark’s Aspire Leggings, and Alphalete’s Meridian Leggings too if you’d like to take a read of those!

Until next time
