Best Jeans For Athletic Ladies

Thanks to the genetics from my dad, wrestling for almost 6 years, and leg day being my favourite 3 days of the week, it’s safe to say that my legs and bum bum have developed to quite the size. And thanks to my mama’s genetics and general gym addiction, my thunder thighs are paired with a small waist. This makes shopping for jeans a TASK.

I spent YEARS crying over my big arse in changing rooms after another unsuccessful jeans shopping trip. I distinctly remember crying in the middle of a Bluenotes once when I was about 16 because I couldn’t fit in a single pair of their jeans properly. It was either go up a pant size so that my thighs could fit in them, but then the waist band would be far too big, OR, go to my regular waist size and not be able to even get the jeans past my knees. Needless to say I always ended up with the size up, a belt, and a whole lot of spare fabric around the crotch and waist. Long shirts were my friend. And leggings. Thank you to whoever created leggings.

I also just wanna know what companies are thinking then they make jeans. I know that true denim doesn’t have elastic in them BUT THAT DOESNT MEAN MAKE JEANS W/OUT ELASTIC?! Idk about you but I like to be able to bend and move and SIT in my jeans without feeling like my circulation is going to be affected.

Anyway, I have searched long and hard throughout my 23 years for a solid pair of jeans and I have finally found a handful of brands that fit the peach, without being super baggy on the waist. I’ll show you them highest to lowest price, and add some honourable mentions at the end so that you too, can finally wear jeans that fit your bum, but also won’t end up around your knees without a belt on.

For reference, my measurements are: 26 waist, 39.5 around the glutes. My legs are a little on the short side, and my torso is rather long.

Jamie Jeans – Topshop

I’ve noticed lot of hype around Toyshop’s Joni jeans – which is cool and all, I’ve worn those jeans before too. However, these jeans don’t have belt loops – which, regardless of how great jeans fit – let’s be real, a belt is always necessary for us ladies.

That’s why I would suggest their Jamie jeans – they are hands down the best jeans I have ever owned, and I have owned many in my lifetime. They last the longest in terms of them not ripping too – about 1.5-2yrs until they rip on the inner thigh (inevitable for me as my thighs rub together when I walk #teamnothighgap).

They’re high waisted – like belly button high waisted, but not so high that they feel like they’re in your ribcages business. And the STRETCH!! These jeans are soft, supple, stretchy, and STURDY! I can go out for a big meal, or sit through a long car ride in the Jamie jeans and not feel like I have to unbutton them or like I’m losing circulation.

Of course, they’re the most expensive of my top picks, but for a good reason. 100% worth the money.

I wear a 28 in these jeans. While we’re here too… another perk of these jeans is that they come in different leg lengths; 28, 30, 32 – so, for all my long legged (and short legged) ladies out there, these jeans will fit properly!

High-Waisted Kate Jeans – Dynamite

A little bit of a biased top pick seeing as I’ve worked for Dynamite for almost 4 years now – but I wouldn’t have discovered these jeans for a loooong time without my employment with them. They’ve also gotten significantly better over the last few years in terms of jean quality, stretchiness, and thickness.

These jeans are high waisted – but not as high waisted as the Jamie jeans (the difference is negligible though). Not the end of the world though, they still fit around your upper pelvis nicely. They have great stretch, almost on par with the Jamie jeans the material just isn’t AS soft as them. I can still sit in them all day at work and not be uncomfortable though. This might be why I feel as though they’re not as high waisted as the Jamie’s because there’s a little bit less of a stretch so I can’t yank them up as high.

Dynamite has recently added an extended size AND length range to their pant collection, so women of all shapes and sizes can throw a pair of these on!

I wear a 27/28 in these jeans, depending on the stretch (it varies from jean to jean).

~$50 CAD

Super Stretch Jeans (High Waisted) – H&M

A great option if you’re on a budget but can’t find anything within your price range to fit the butt.

I found these randomly last summer. I’ve bought H&M’s girlfriend jeans before which I still wear the shit out of to this day, but always seemed to struggle with their skinny jeans. I’d wanted a pair of white jeans for ages but could never find any that fit properly – until these! And then a few months ago I rediscovered how great they are when I found a pair of jeans in the exact blue that I was looking for.

They’re not AS stretchy as the Dynamite or Topshop ones, I do find that if I’ve been in them too long they start to get a little uncomfortable. It’s also understandably a little bit more of an effort to get them on than the other two as well. BUT, they make the butt look great, and fit well.

I wear an 8 in these jeans.

~$25 CAD

Honourable Mentions:

American Eagle High Rise Jegging (super stretch) – the fit of these is really great, honestly I would say comparable to the Topshop Jamie jeans. The only downside to American Eagle jeans is the way they dye their jeans, they have weird lines in the hip crease, hence why I don’t own a pair. I wear a size 4 in these jeans and I believe that they’re around $50.

Good American Jeans – I’ve never tried a pair of these jeans on, but I’ve heard a lot of good things about them. They’re made by Khloe Kardashian specifically for girls with big booties and small waists so they gotta be good! Unfortunately, my budget does not allow me to ever afford a pair of these as they’re $200. HA!

Until next time
