My Spring Wardrobe Must-Haves 2018

I’m not entirely sure if now is the right time to be writing this blog post seeing as there was an ICE STORM this past weekend and I spent the majority of my Sunday wrapped in big sweaters and blankets to keep myself warm. It’s probably because I am in desperate need of some SUN, to feel warmth when I step outside, and to give up my chunky knits for a few months.

Basically, I’ve complied a list of essential spring items that I think every body should have in their wardrobe. Some are old classics (that have had a much needed modern update), and some different, newer trends that I’ve been loving this season (that are super wearable, too!).

Trench Coat

Like I said, we had an ice storm on the weekend. Spring in Canada is a confusing time. A month ago, we had a week of sunshine and blue skies… and now we’re back o freezing, so it’s good to have options when it comes to outerwear. Once this damn ice melts, it’ll still (unfortunately) be too cold to go without a coat, but also too warm to stay bundled in a big winter jacket. Enter, Trench Coat, the perfect happy medium – they’re super sleek, give you enough coverage to keep you warm, and they take an outfit from meh to yehhh.

Outfit options for trench coats are endless. Here I’ve paired mine with skinny blue jeans, loafers, and a button down shirt.

I currently own two; a navy one from Forever 21 which I wear far too often, and a grey over-sized one from heaven on earth – Primark.

Loafers

Speaking of loafers – I’m obsessed with the ones I recently bought (the ones I’m wearing in the outfit above). I have been wearing them non-stop since I bought them in H&M a month or so ago. My boyfriend thinks they look like shoes that a king would wear way back when. Super comfortable, and again, they turn your outfit from casual to office appropriate.

I also have a pair of white loafer sling-backs that I would also consider a late-spring loafer (late spring = hopefully less rain aka no wet feet in a sling back).

Blue Jeans

Up until recently the only blue jeans I would be caught dead in were my distressed boyfriend jeans. I stayed away from blue jeans for SO LONG for many reasons: A) I thought the blue was unflattering on my thicc legs, B) I didn’t like any of the shades of blue I saw, and C) I couldn’t find any that FIT… Until I stumbled upon a pair of H&M jeans that changed ma life. If you saw my recent blog post on “Best Jeans for Athletic Ladies“, you’ll know I’ve struggled with jeans forEVER.

Anyway, now I’ve found my perfect blue jean I want to wear them ALL THE TIME. I always saw women dressed in cute af spring/summer outfits that incorporated a pair of blue jeans and I was always so sad that I couldn’t do the same. They go with everything. Amazing.

Something Red

Now you’ve probably noticed that this spring isn’t about the pastels and cutesy, floaty typical “spring” colours. This spring is BOLD and I LOVE IT. Finally something new to spruce up the spring style. One colour I’m loving in particular is red.

I’ve never really been a fan of red, unless I was defending Sheffield United over Sheffield Wednesday – then red was my colour. But suddenly, the red and white wizzards aren’t the only reason I want to wear this colour. First of all, it’s flattering on all skin tones… I work in retail, man… and I haven’t seen anyone that hasn’t been able to pull it off. A year ago the only colours I would wear were black, white, and grey. Now I’m out here talking about red like it’s my best friend. I’m growing, y’all.

Anyway… buy something red, you won’t regret it.

HINT: Dynamite is literally living and breathing red right now so get your asses in there. Also doubles as Canada Day gear for all the Canadians out there.

Statement Earring

This is a trend that I didn’t ever think I would get into. I’ve always been a studs and minimal jewelry kinda gal, but this season has changed my mind.

I’ve never really been one for necklaces but always felt that with certain outfits my neck looks a little bare, so a statement earring is the perfect compromise!

Cheetah

Never in my life from high school onwards did I think I would be saying that cheetah print is making a comeback. But it is, and if you’re not on board yet, you will (and should) be soon.

Don’t get me wrong, cheetah print can be tacky when it’s done wrong. But when done right, it is soooo right. I currently am only rocking 1 cheetah piece as I feel that owning too many cheetah prints also may start to look a little tacky. It’s a floaty, collared button down shirt from Dynamite (I know, I’m talking about Dynamite again… sorry). I love wearing it with black skinnies and an olive/army green maxi blazer to give the tack some class. And obv I wear my loafers with it too #obsessed.

What are your spring essentials?

Until next time
